Odds Not in HIs Favor: Reading from #JFTRE15

Mookie Spitz reads the next section from Jonnie Fazoolie & the Transfinite Reality Engine, plunging us into a charged exchange that’s equal parts scientific sparring, philosophical hustle, and awkward but provocative flirting.

Jonnie, jittery and reckless as ever, crosses paths with Dr. Basine Felderhossen, a sharp German physicist attending a string theory conference in Cancun. Over coffee (which Johnny manages to spill all over the place), they lock horns on the craziest idea yet: building a machine to jump between universes.

Basine dismisses it as impossible — a multiverse fantasy with infinitesimal odds. Fazoolie pounces on that sliver of possibility, turning it into a bet: if anything truly can happen in an infinite universe, then sooner or later, even his lunatic scheme has to work. It’s part sales pitch, part self-delusion, part reckless dare — and Basine, despite every ounce of reason telling her to run, plays along.

Their conversation is a dance of skepticism and intrigue. She’s drawn by Jonnie's audacity and his twisted optimism that constraints don’t matter — that you don’t have to prove something works to sell it. He’s equally captivated by her precision, her reluctant smile, and the way she tries to keep him at arm’s length while still leaning in just close enough to keep talking.

By the end, they’ve struck a bizarre wager on the very fabric of reality. Johnny’s eyes are lit up with dangerous inspiration, convinced the odds are finally bending his way. Basine walks off shaking her head — but with the hint of a grin, betraying that maybe, just maybe, she’s not entirely immune to his insanity...
